Dentist For Kids
Dental Care For The Whole Family
When your child can see the same dentist or dental team for their check-ups throughout their childhood, they become familiar with the people and the place and are far more likely to enjoy dental visits. Through great experiences, they develop positive associations with dentistry and healthy dental habits that will keep them smiling all the way into adulthood.
Our dentists have completed extensive additional training to be able to effectively meet the unique needs of growing smiles. You can rest assured that as a family-focused dental practice, our number one priority is giving your child or teen the best possible care.
Dental Treatments For Children
Children’s dentistry, also known as paediatric dentistry, focuses on providing gentle, age-appropriate dental care for infants, children, and teens. When you visit your dentist at Biggleswade Dental Care, you can expect a fun, welcoming environment where your child feels safe and comfortable.

How Often Should My Child See Their Dentist?
Your child or children will usually start to get their milk teeth at around six months old. We recommend that children have regular private dental health check-ups from the age of two. If your child is struggling to maintain good dental hygiene, it might be worth seeing one of our friendly hygienists to ensure your child has healthy teeth and gums.
The first few years of visiting us are more of a trust-building exercise, as well as a chance to give useful preventative advice to the parents or carers. Teaching children good dental hygiene at a young age is an investment in their health that will set them up for life. Our dentists will educate children and parents on how to look after their teeth, brushing techniques, diet advice and much more.
Meet The Dentist
Dr Rajas Prasad
Associate Dentist

Children's Dental Treatments
Common dental treatments for children at Biggleswade Dental Care include regular check-ups and cleanings, fluoride applications, sealants, fillings, extractions as a last resort, and orthodontic treatment. These procedures help to prevent tooth decay, promote oral health and hygiene and ensure the healthy growth of permanent teeth.
1

Fluoride Applications
These are a safe and effective way to safeguard your growing child’s teeth from developing decay. The fluoride is painted onto the surface of the child’s teeth and this helps to mineralise the teeth.
2

Fissure Sealants
A fissure sealant is a plastic liquid-coating that then sets. Fissure sealants are painted on to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, to reduce the stagnation of sugary substances and prevent decay in children. Fissure Sealants have been scientifically proven to prevent decay, especially if they are placed early on permanent teeth that have just erupted.
3

Sports Mouth Guards
Sports mouth guards reduce and prevent damage to teeth caused by trauma. We can provide professionally made custom mouth guards in an array of colours and patterns for those actively involved in sport.
4

Oral Health and Hygiene
When your child visits their dentist at Biggleswade Dental Centre they will be provided with guidance on brushing their teeth, oral health and any food or snacks to avoid to ensure optimal oral health and hygiene. Dr Rajas has a wealth of experience in treating children and adolescents.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about your dental care? You’re not alone! Our FAQ section provides clear answers to the most common questions we receive from patients. Whether you’re wondering about appointment procedures, treatments, insurance coverage, or how to care for your smile at home, we’ve got you covered.
We’re here to help you feel informed, confident, and comfortable every step of the way.
We recommend a first visit at one year old, or as soon as their first teeth erupt into the mouth. Early preventive advice can help establish good dental habits and dietary practices and so keep your child’s teeth healthy and prevent cavities or the need for more complex treatment in the future.
If your child is under the care of a medical specialist, you should see a paediatric dentist to reduce the risk of having any dental problems which may arise as a result of their condition, or may impair their health.
The purpose of the first visit is to build a trusting relationship with your child, while building the foundations for a lifetime of happy, confident patients, with healthy gums and teeth. At the first appointment, the specialist paediatric dentist will focus on getting to know your child. After discussing any concerns or problems, we will gather a detailed medical and background history and carry out a complete oral examination. We will evaluate any behavioural issues and assess the teeth , gums and surrounding tissues in order to identify any potential problems. We may take some digital x-rays. Any findings will be discussed and the recommended procedures and options will be explained to you. We will discuss brushing techniques, flossing, fluoride recommendations, and healthy eating habits with you and your child.
Due to modern advancements, X-rays these days are at least 90% weaker than they needed to be a few years ago, because of the improvement and development of computer sensors. Dental X-rays are weak and carry a very minute risk to a child’s health. Moreover, we are always careful at Biggleswade Dental about the amount of radiation a child gets, and we endeavour to limit the use of X-rays until it is needed. We do this to ensure you receive a premium dental care experience.
Sore gums when teeth erupt are part of the normal eruption process. The discomfort is eased for some children by use of a teething biscuit, a piece of toast or a frozen teething ring. Your pharmacy should also have medications that can be rubbed on the gums to reduce the discomfort.
