What Are Dentures?
Dentures are custom-made, removable appliances designed to replace missing teeth and fit comfortably over your gums. Each set is individually crafted to ensure a natural look and feel, tailored specifically to your mouth.
Tooth loss can affect more than just your ability to eat and speak—it can also impact your appearance and facial structure. Dentures help restore function, enhance your smile, and support facial contours, particularly around the lips and cheeks.
At Biggleswade Dental Centre, we ensure that the dentures we provide are made from the highest quality materials, offering both durability and aesthetics. Our goal is to restore your smile and boost your confidence.
Why Choose Dentures?
- Restore Functionality - Dentures allow you to chew more effectively, making it easier to eat a variety of foods. Speech: Missing teeth can affect how you speak. Dentures help restore natural speech patterns.
- Improve Appearance - Dentures support your cheeks and lips, preventing the sunken appearance that can come with missing teeth.
- Cost-Effective Option - Compared to dental implants or bridges, dentures are generally more affordable, especially for full-mouth restoration.
- Non-Invasive - No surgery required, unlike dental implants. This is ideal for people with certain health conditions or those who prefer to avoid surgical procedures.
- Customised & Replaceable - Dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth. If they wear down or get damaged, they can be repaired or replaced more easily than some other dental options.
- Suitable for Extensive Tooth Loss - If you’ve lost many or all of your teeth, full or partial dentures are often the most practical solution.
Am I Suitable For Dentures Treatment?
Custom-Fitted Partial dentures stand as a pivotal solution for individuals facing the dilemma of missing teeth, going beyond mere aesthetics to offer significant functional advantages. Custom-fitted to each wearer, these dental appliances not only ensure comfort but also seamlessly complement the natural teeth, enhancing overall oral health and stability. Let’s take a look into how the precision in the fit of partial dentures can markedly enhance the ability to chew and speak, alongside boosting the wearer’s self-confidence.
- Significant Tooth Loss - Patients that have lost several or all teeth are primary candidates for this treatment. Dentures help restore function and aesthetics to your smile.
- Issues With Existing Teeth - Complete dentures can be a great solution for patients whose remaining teeth are severely decayed or damaged and cannot be saved through other dental treatments.
- Desire for Improved Dental Function and Aesthetics - If the patient is experiencing difficulty chewing food or speaking clearly due to missing teeth, dentures may significantly improve these functions. Missing teeth can lead to a sunken facial appearance. Dentures help fill out the face and provide support, enhancing the overall facial aesthetic.
- Health Conditions Affecting Oral Tissues - Patients with advanced gum disease that led to tooth loss might be candidates for dentures as a part of a broader dental health treatment plan.

Our Denture Solutions
We offer a variety of denture options depending on the number of teeth needing replacing:
1

Full (Complete) Dentures
Designed for patients who have lost all of their teeth in an arch (upper or lower), complete dentures restore the entire set of teeth.
2

Partial Dentures
For those patients that have some natural teeth remaining, partial dentures fill the spaces created by missing teeth and prevent other teeth from shifting.
3

Immediate Dentures
Prepared in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed, allowing you not to be without teeth during the healing period.
4

Overdentures - Implant Supported
Overdentures are removable dentures that fit over remaining natural teeth or dental implants for added stability and comfort. They offer improved retention compared to traditional dentures, enhancing chewing ability, speech, and overall confidence. Overdentures also help preserve jawbone structure and reduce long-term changes to facial appearance and oral health.

Flexible Dentures
At Biggleswade Dental Centre we also offer flexible dentures by Valplast and Sunflex as an alternative to traditional dentures. This type of denture is particularly suited to patients with irregular-shaped mouths and who are not suitable for traditional dentures.

Caring For Your Dentures
Proper care is essential to maintain your dentures and oral health. This includes regular cleaning, keeping them moist when not in use, and handling them carefully to avoid damage.
- Daily Cleaning: Remove dentures and rinse with water after eating to remove food debris. Use a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner daily. Do not use regular toothpaste, as it can scratch the surface.
- Soak Overnight: Keep dentures in a denture-soaking solution or plain water overnight. Never let your denture(s) dry out as it can result in warping.
- Oral Hygiene: Clean your gums, tongue, and any remaining teeth every morning and night with a soft toothbrush. Rinse your mouth before putting your dentures back in.
- Avoid The Following: Do not use harsh cleaning agents like bleach or vinegar on your dentures and don’t sleep with your dentures in unless advised by your dentist.
